Gwadar (Gidroshia Point) Zameek Balochistan Launches Climate Education Initiative to Protect Gwadar Community
Gwadar, Pakistan- Zameek Balochistan, a registered indigenous youth-led organization, is proud to announce its launch and the establishment of the first-ever climate school in Balochistan. The official press release stated that, Our mission is to educate and empower communities in Gwadar and across
Balochistan about climate change, its impacts, and sustainable solutions. The initiative
was launched with great enthusiasm, and Assistant Commissioner Jawad Ahmed Zehri
himself cut the ribbon, expressing his full support for Zameek. He encouraged the Zameek
team to take a stand, saying, “Just like Zameek, we will not say that Gwadar existed once.” Founder Nafeesa Baloch passionately stated, “I will never wait for anyone else to educate
my community. I warn the world, especially the Global North, to fear the day when my
whole Baloch nation stands in front of you and demands justice.
The press release further stated that, Founded by Nafeesa Baloch, a climate activist from Gwadar Pakistan who represented
Balochistan Globally in COP27, COP28, COP29, SB58 and UN Water Conference. She is also
the organizer of first ever climate camp in Balochistan. In the press release the organization states about Urgent Need that,
Balochistan is disproportionately affected by climate change, with rising sea levels and
coastal erosion threatens the very existence of communities. The area of Zameek, a
once-thriving coastal community in Gwadar, has tragically been lost to the devastating
impacts of coastal erosion, serving as a stark reminder of the urgent need for climate
action. The press release further stated that, Educate communities about climate change and its effect, Promote sustainable practices and climate resilience, Support rehabilitation efforts in climate-affected areas across Balochistan and Advocate for climate action and policy changes.
